Internship Final Reflection - Advertisement Assignment #4

My internship goals were not to get nervous during arguments, have good presentation skills, be a leader and get more into adult world. When I first worked, I was melting when the phone was ringing. I was afraid to pick up because somebody could ask me something I can't do it. I was nervous. I had no skills at presentation at all because simply I hated it. Presentation for me was taking shots. I just forced my self to like it because I hated it in the past. I was a kind of shy. I saw a friend of mine very interested in presentation and loved it as going to Disney Land. For me presentation was death. Also being a leader for me was a great headache and a pain in the butt. I didn't like to lead people. However, I found that the leader is more respected and I always wanted to be special. Being a leader and presentation skills is very related. Their success keys is to have an eye contact and give the audience your point however it looked like. Just don't get nervous or think they want to bother you. It is like somebody asking you for more information and he wants to get more from your experiance and skills.
In the last 12 weeks, I learnt that people don't act the same in work as they act in home. Every body in work have a different face. I grew a lot as a young adult as I knew how to be serious in cases I laughed out loud in before. The highlights is that the Russian speakers had a very Egyptian accent that every time I look around I think that a country mate behind me but then I knew it's not. I was so sad when I found a girl from Cairo has cancer in the hospital and the disease ruined her face and body. Her sister was like a greek goddess and I felt she felt jealous and broken that she is sick. Every time I arrived to the hosptial I checked her bed saying Good morning and I make jokes with her. Sometimes she was not able to replay just staring at the window but I knew that It made difference.
I knew how to defend myself more in talk language not with muscles. In professional world, there is no place for rudeness otherwise, you will be kicked out. If I am going to start next week my internship, I would be more serious in meeting the people I will be working with instead of making jokes. My advice for students interning in Coney Island hospital next year is that don't let somebody boss you badly and also don't hesitate fast. Just think well before you react and know that you won't be loved from everybody. One thing I will miss from my internship is my belarusian volunteer coworker who I adored her too much.

Midpoint Reflection

My internship is different than my expectations as all I thought was giving shots to old people. The similar culture of Coney Island Hospital to IHSL is that people are kind, calm, friendly and try to help you as soon as possible. I have a pretty nice relationship with any person I work with. They are all like my older brothers and sisters. When I worked with professional adults, I learned how to remain calm because getting angry gets you no where. I communicate with people through the phone, and face to face and that made my English get improved. My friends are curious to make me get improved. They ask me to repeat the word but in the American accent when they hear me say it in a weird way. I learned the skill of being responsible, and doing the thing in a perfect way. When I had to fix some files, I have to do it right. Because I don't want anybody to come and say "Hey, Mohamed! why this one in the wrong place?". I get mad so fast so that time If anybody complained I had the right to defend myself, argue and be rude if it's needed. The challenge at internship was not to get nervous. Now, my mentor made me cold as ice now by assigning me on things that forces you to be calm. I am not facing too much pressure on time but it is not going like the past. I handled the change easily, I finish my internship at three then go to gym then go to my work. When I know certain day is going to be filled, I make the activities on another day. My goals in my internship is to improve my presentation skills, and meeting new people. There is a lot of things I learned about New York City especially Brooklyn. I learned that you could hide your identity and origin fast. You can't say that is Indian, and this is Chinese. BK is exactly the melting pot. I knew there is not any much racism because people here came from all over the world and there is no certain race that holds the control of everything.

P3- Extra Credit!

The third and fourth weeks in internship have been a lot different than the first two. I became more familiar with the places. I knew more people and gained more friends. I really knew what I should do. I don't have to ask my manger to get the instructions. Everyday I am getting more experiance. I began to know what's going on. The place become more interesting and I liked it. The first two weeks I was kind of lost. It was mad boring. I was walking in the hallway like a mad person trying to kill time. I tried to run away trying to chill out anywhere far from my manger eyes. But now, things are going better.

Four weeks into internship - P2

Ocean parkway is the name of neighborhood which Coney Island Hospital is located in. Every day I leave school at 11:45 am. I takes me like ten minutes to reach. I always arrive at 12:00 or 12:08 my maximum. I don't have a constant schedule but I have to make twelve hours a week. Regularly, I do three hours a day for four days. Any operator in the volunteer office can sign my time card.

Four weeks into internship

Coney Island hospital is the full name of my internship site. My main job is filing. My site provide health care for sick people. There are three tasks I always do there. I check the documents of the patients if there's something wrong in it. I bring medicine from the pharmacy. I also pick up the phone while my mentor is on lunch. I have noticed a lot of skills in my mentor. She is calm, respectful, funny and know how to deal with troubles. She knows a lot about etiquette, as she always greets me and didn't make me feel I am a stranger from the first day. The most memorable moment that I can't forget when an Italian woman asked me for Russian translation. Also, I can't forget when I saw a man who look like those egyptian "mommies" walking in the hall. He looked as he was rolled in toilet paper. That two situations made me burst out laughing. I enjoy my internship because the people are friendly. The most challenging part of internship is that you make the people understand you one the phone while you get only little informarion. You don't know what to say but you have to make that call.

Part 2

So Three questions I have about internship is that:
1- What do you do once your mentor has a break and you don't know what to do?
2- How to always keep yourself busy and kill the time?
3- What do you do If you don't like somebody there?

My first Two Weeks (Feb. 22 - March

I am working in Coney Island Hospital. I working with people with many different races. That's what is called diversity. The environment I am working in really make you like to give. My colleagues are kind and friendly to me. My mentor is a great woman that speaks in a gentle way and know the etiquette well. My first thoughts When I arrived to my internship, I I felt I will be a doctor in a minute. I thought they would ask me to give shots to patients and this medical things. But That didn't happen because I am not eighteen yet. It really made me happy. My goals for internship is pretty obvious. I don't have any kind of wishes for gaining knowledge because since I am working, I will learn. I just need to improve in my practical life and get more in adults world.
